About this project
My name is Natalie Totska, and knit.cool is my bachelor project at Carinthia University of Applied Sciences (CUAS) in the study program Multimedia Technology.
Knit.cool explores digital tools for vintage punch-card knitting machines. The app helps you turn images into editable punch-card patterns and supports you in generating garment instructions.
Using the app
Most standard keyboard shortcuts work as you would expect (for example: copy/paste, undo/redo, keys for the tools are on their buttons: "p" is for pencil, "e" for eraser etc.).
On mobile, drawing is optimized for a stylus. Finger touch is used for panning/zooming the canvas.
In the garment calculator you will see Japanese-style notation for shaping. Example: 2-3-6 means decrease 2 stitches every 3 rows, 6 times.
